District 7 Spring Meeting Minutes

The Spring Meeting of the District 7 Agricultural Educators was held on April 16^th, 2014 at the Ohio FFA Center. The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by President-Brian Breece.

BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES!!

• During the meal we had a presentation by David Little from CEV Multimedia who also sponsored the meal.

• Previous Minutes are on the web and they stand as read.

• Treasurer’s Report
• Beginning Balance as of 4/16/14 was $2,335.36. Bill for the trophies was $387.25.
• Ending Balance was $1,948.11
• Reminder that dues are $1 per member each year, and if you haven’t paid for this year yet, you need to do so right away. COLUMBUS FT. HAYES & PICKAWAY ROSS is still outstanding.
• Moved by Susan Metzger to approve her report. Report will stand as read.

• Delegate Council / Chair—Brian Breece
• There will be more training on AET at the Summer Conference if you are interested.
• There will be a vote on code regulations coming up at the State FFA Convention.

• Legislative-Scott Sharp
• Scott updated us on the following:
• Reminder to watch emails in regards to Legislative items.
• Scott passed out papers on OAAE dues and how to assist payment with those 0.57 dollars.
• Scott also had information available for the 5 tiers of funding, science credit, House Bill 59 / extended programming, quality standards, Farm Bureau membership forms, etc Contact Scott if you were are in need of one to help you.
• Scott also pointed out that there are only 153/500 teachers who are members of OAAE and encouraged everyone to pay at least the dues for OAAE even if you didn’t want to be a member of the other organizations. As we have strength in numbers in the state house.

• Membership-Gina Neff
• Gina encouraged you to apply for membership to OAAE if you haven’t already.
• OAAE applications for 2014-15 are out and you are encouraged to apply.
• For those who are NAAE members, if you are interested there is a grant that you can apply for a greenhouse.

• CDE—Tom Holton
• Reminder about the upcoming CDE online tests for this year.
• State Floriculture / Outdoor Power Equipment will be at ATI on April 22^nd
• Wildlife, Agronomy, Nature, and Poultry will be going back to taking tests onsite next year at the state contest.
• The next advisory meeting will be May 21^st for any items of business.
• Items to business to take to the next CDE meeting:
1. Gina Neff moved that rubrics for Job Interview need to be adjusted for the Interview and the followup letter AND for the Ag Sales summarties not to count but to help the judge. 2^nd by Kim Weiss. Motion Passed.

2. Adam Staley moved that the Animal Behavior / Health contest move to a start time of 10:00 a.m. instead of 11:00 a.m. 2^nd by Jeff Tilley. Motion Passed.

3. Adam Staley moved to adjust the policy that Ag teachers can proctor our own CDE tests with our honest integrity. 2^nd by Scott Sharp. Motion passed 16-1. It was also pointed out that we can proctor OGT tests and should be allowed to do this as well.

• Kim Weiss showed concern that the Licking County CTEC students couldn’t get online to take online tests due to their server issues.

• Check out the calendar for tentative upcoming dates for 2014-15.

• FFA Advisory Committee—Rachel Scior
• The committee hasn’t met since last fall.
• Feedback was gathered on Regional Evaluations
• Need a mutual location for evaluations
• Do we have a CDE representative on the Board of Trustees or do they have a representative that attends the CDE committee meetings.
• Could AET just send Leah a list of those eligible for the state degree and eliminate need to evaluation of those applications?
• Suggested to reform sub-districts to combine counties to have more people to look over the applications to start with to assist with potential problems on a county level.

• Camp Board—Adam Staley
• There are scholarships available for the new teachers.
• They are trying to raise funds for a new building.
• Camp packets were in the mail today with an Indiana Jones theme.
• $75 per teacher. $175 per member. Advisors must stay if taking more than 10 members to one session.

• Mentor—Debra Burden
• If you know of any new teachers coming into the district please forward contact information to Debra so she can make contact with them on behalf of the district.

• Trophies—Jeff Tilley
• Just a reminder to check the website for correct spellings and results BEFORE plaques are printed.
• Plaques are here and please see Jeff or the District 7 box at the State Convention if you were not at the meeting to take yours home. The district proficiency plaques will be coming after the State Convention final placements are announced and the plaques get printed.

• Alumni—Jeff Ellis
• NONE

• Other—
• Reminder that State Officer / Election of our District President will take place at the State Convention. Absentee ballots will still be accepted. Watch your email closer to convention for those details or see Brian at Convention for more details once our district ballot is released.

· Unfinished Business

o Set the tentative dates for 2014-15. Please see attached schedule of events.

o Jeff Ellis moved to hold the meeting after the Regional Meeting if that is what they state decides we are doing now. 2^nd by Susan Metzger. Motion passed.

o Gina Neff moved to not grade cover letters and resumes for the District Job Interview Contest. 2^nd by Rachel Scior. Motion passed.

· New Business

o Nominated and elected with a unanimious vote to appoint Tom Holton as the District 7 representative to serve with District 6 on the FFA Board of Trustees. It is a 3 year term and meets twice a year normally.

o Announced that there will be District Officer Elections at the Evaluation Meeting next winter. Let Brian know if you are interested in a position.

o Items for Scott Sharp to take to Delegate Council:

§ Tom Holton moved to let teachers administer the webxams for their district. 2^nd by Rachel Scior. Motion passed.

§ (If you have concern on this topic, please show it to Ike Kershaw, by calling him at 614-644-5922).

§ Scott Sharp moved to have Ag Issues moved away from Ag Communications Contests. 2^nd by Craig Hart. Motion passed.

· ODE Update

o Changes for next year:

§ As of July 1^st we will no longer be using the SAE Server but will be using judgingcard.com. Students will be able to register for CDE testing using their Ag Career Network ID and password. We will also be able to view results there, as well as copies of the scantron as to what the member marked. This will also hopefully take the judging card and transfer right into the AET record books.

§ It is an absolute must that the FFA Membership be done by September 30^th for 1^st semester kids. Then again in January for the 2^nd semester members.

§ There will be uniformity on contest as to who competes in the finals. Such as 4 of the 6 will go onto the finals.

§ Refer to the Powerpoint presentation that Kevin Williams sent out for the rest of his presentation notes.
