District 7 Fall Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

The Spring Meeting of the District 7 Agricultural Educators was held on Wednesday, August 27^th, 2014 at the Ohio FFA Center. The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. by President-Brian Breece.

BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES!!

• During the meal we had a presentation by Bill Diley on behalf of the Ohio Fruit Grower’s Association and DB Yummers. He gave us an update as well as free samples of the BBQ Sauce.

• They also sponsored the meal. Thank you!!

• Welcome to our new or returning teachers to the district.

• OSU Updates by Dr. Gary Straquadine

• OSU Teach Ag Day is Sept. 26^th.

• Foundation Update. Congratulations goes to Melissa Bell on her new son! Jessica Shanahan had a newsletter that Kevin Williams shared with us.

• Professional Development:

• Previous Minutes are on the web and they stand as read after the correction of April not February.

• Treasurer’s Report
• Balance is $1,882.61
• Reminder that dues are $1 per member each year, and if you haven’t paid for this year yet, you need to do so right away.
• Please make sure that you are sending it to Southeastern and not any of Susan’s previous schools.
• Moved by Susan Metzger to approve her report. Report will stand as read.

• Legislative-Scott Sharp
• Scott updated us on the following:
• Reminder to watch emails in regards to Legislative items.
• Scott encouraged to join OAAE and how to assist payment with those 0.57 dollars. He ncouraged everyone to pay at least the dues for OAAE even if you didn’t want to be a member of the other organizations. As we have strength in numbers in the state house.

• Membership-Gina Neff
• Gina encouraged you to apply for membership to OAAE if you haven’t already.
• She encouraged everyone to apply when OAAE applications are released.
• If you pay by October 1^st you will also get a 10% off coupon for educational supplies from Nasco.

• CDE—Tom Holton
• He read the email from Patti regarding the Junior High Programs competing in competitions but they can only judge at Invitationals. The state will be sending out a clarification on this topic so watch your newsletters.
• Tom was nominated from our district to represent us on the State Board of Trustees but the committee selected Tom Joliff from District 6 to represent Region 3 instead.
• Question was brought up on the Outdoor Power CDE on April 28^th and that date is not confirmed yet.
• District Ag Powers (formally Ag & Industrial Diagnostics) will be on February 28^th at Franklin Equipment on Hamilton Road. Get t-shirt sizes to Brian Kennedy by the first of January. Watch your email for more details.
• Concern was expressed that we don’t have invitational dates yet. The State Department is supposed to be checking and letting us know.
• Tom reminded everyone about the details of the Knox County Invitational / (District) Forestry Contest on Thursday, Sept. 25^th at 3:00 p.m. at Knox Woods. It is located on SR36. Go past Wal-Mart & Bob Evans, thru the next light and turn into Knox Opportunity drive on the right. Go straight back to the back of the parking lot.
• Ag Sales contest has been separated out from Job Interview. The new state contest date is Saturday, February 21^st not December 6^th with State Food Science and Job Interview Contest. Our district contest will now be at Lancaster on February 11^th at 3:00 p.m.
• District Job Interview was changed to November 17^th at 4 p.m.
• Regional Evaluations is Feb. 9th
• The next CDE Advisory board will be November 5^th.
• Check out the calendar for tentative upcoming dates for 2014-15.

• FFA Advisory Committee—Rachel Scior
• None

• Camp Board—Adam Staley
• Greenhand Camp is coming up. Login to Teacher Central to register.
• You may also take 8^th graders to this camp.

• Mentor—Debra Burden
• If you know of any other new teachers coming into the district please forward contact information to Debra so she can make contact with them on behalf of the district.
• For those who are new, please feel free to call Debra or any other teacher in our district as we would all love to help you.

• Trophies—Jeff Tilley
• Just a reminder to check the website for correct spellings and results BEFORE plaques are printed.

· Unfinished Business

o Set the final dates for 2014-15. Please see attached schedule of events.

· New Business

o Jeff Ellis moved to adjourn the business meeting for the state updates. Tom Holton seconded it. Motion passed.

· ODE Update

o Please see the email that Kevin Williams sent out for all the details. Here are a few highlights:

§ Dates to remember:

· Membership needs to be submitted by Sept. 28^th on AgCN

· Winter 2015—plan for the new courses for the 2015-16 year.

· March 1^st, 2015—deadline for all new CTE-26 forms for new programs.

· April 1^st, 2015—need to have WebXam roster uploaded

§ New Award Applications

· American Degree, Star Awards, and Proficiency Awards with online applications through AgCN / AET

§ See the website for the new officer book rubrics.

§ Middle School programming

· Please see the packet or website for details.

§ CDE’s will be using www.JudgingCard.com

· Sample CDE tests is up and running under QBank
