A-C Members Attend State FFA Convention

 

         OnApril 30th and May 1st, the State FFA Convention was heldat the Ohio State Fairgrounds. On April 30th, Mr. Sharp left for theconvention early with members and later Mr. Tilley brought up more members whowanted to attend after school. The day was filled with fun filled sessions,tours and a dance that evening. The students who left in the morning with Mr.Sharp attended all two convention sessions, toured OhioÕs State House and stillhad plenty of time to walk around to check out Career Show and to meet otherFFA members. The students that came up in the evening with Mr. Tilleypicked–up the other students and went out to dinner to Home Town Buffet.Then after their meal, they attended the last session for the day then went tothe Ohio FFA sponsored dance.

 

         ThiswasnÕt just all fun as it was also a competition for some members! The MeatsCDE is held every year at the State FFA Convention and for the past two yearsour team has participated in this contest area. Miranda Metzger, Ryan Kelleyand Jenna Ferguson all participatedin this CDE this year. First when they arrived at the convention they had tocompete against other chapters who also participated in this contest then afterthat they had the rest of he day to relax and to enjoy the convention!

 

         OnFriday all members who qualified for the Proficiency awards found out theirplacing that evening. The following members from our chapter placed in the top4 in the state for their proficiency awards: Kaleb Miller, Brittany Stevensand Ryan Davis II. Kaleb Miller placed 2nd in Outdoor Recreation,Brittany Stevens placed 3rd in Accounting and Ryan Davis II placed 3rdin Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production, 3rd in GrainProduction-Entrepreneurship and 4th in Diversified CropProduction-Entrepreneurship. SaturdayMay 1st was the second day of the convention. This was the day wheremembers were recognized for receiving their State FFA Degree, recognized fortheir gold rated officer books and to found out who the new state officers weregoing to be next year. Cheyenne Jepsen, Brittany Stevens, Tyler Van Horn andKaleb Miller all received their StateFFA Degrees on Saturday. This is the highest degree a state can bestow on amember. The 2009-2010 officers who held an office with an officers book werealso recognized for receiving a gold rating. The officers were: AndreaHollett - Treasurer, Hannah Chenetski - Secretary and Brittany Stevens – Reporter.

         Thechapter would like to congratulate Ryan Davis II for becoming OhioÕs candidate for the Star AmericanFarmer. Each state can send one representative to the National level. They mustfill out a detailed application to be considered a candidate for the StarAmerican Farmer. This is the first time in history that our chapter has everhad a candidate for this award. We will not find out the results until laterthis year and the winner will be recognized at the National FFA Convention inOctober. This was a fun filled weekend that the chapter should be proud of withall of our members who were recognized for all of their hard work.
