A-C Members Attend State FFA Convention
On
April 30th and May 1st, the State FFA Convention was held
at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. On April 30th, Mr. Sharp left for the
convention early with members and later Mr. Tilley brought up more members who
wanted to attend after school. The day was filled with fun filled sessions,
tours and a dance that evening. The students who left in the morning with Mr.
Sharp attended all two convention sessions, toured OhioÕs State House and still
had plenty of time to walk around to check out Career Show and to meet other
FFA members. The students that came up in the evening with Mr. Tilley
picked–up the other students and went out to dinner to Home Town Buffet.
Then after their meal, they attended the last session for the day then went to
the Ohio FFA sponsored dance.
This
wasnÕt just all fun as it was also a competition for some members! The Meats
CDE is held every year at the State FFA Convention and for the past two years
our team has participated in this contest area. Miranda Metzger, Ryan Kelley
and Jenna Ferguson all participated
in this CDE this year. First when they arrived at the convention they had to
compete against other chapters who also participated in this contest then after
that they had the rest of he day to relax and to enjoy the convention!
On
Friday all members who qualified for the Proficiency awards found out their
placing that evening. The following members from our chapter placed in the top
4 in the state for their proficiency awards: Kaleb Miller, Brittany Stevens
and Ryan Davis II. Kaleb Miller placed 2nd in Outdoor Recreation,
Brittany Stevens placed 3rd in Accounting and Ryan Davis II placed 3rd
in Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production, 3rd in Grain
Production-Entrepreneurship and 4th in Diversified Crop
Production-Entrepreneurship. Saturday
May 1st was the second day of the convention. This was the day where
members were recognized for receiving their State FFA Degree, recognized for
their gold rated officer books and to found out who the new state officers were
going to be next year. Cheyenne Jepsen, Brittany Stevens, Tyler Van Horn and
Kaleb Miller all received their State
FFA Degrees on Saturday. This is the highest degree a state can bestow on a
member. The 2009-2010 officers who held an office with an officers book were
also recognized for receiving a gold rating. The officers were: Andrea
Hollett - Treasurer, Hannah Chenetski - Secretary and Brittany Stevens – Reporter.
The
chapter would like to congratulate Ryan Davis II for becoming OhioÕs candidate for the Star American
Farmer. Each state can send one representative to the National level. They must
fill out a detailed application to be considered a candidate for the Star
American Farmer. This is the first time in history that our chapter has ever
had a candidate for this award. We will not find out the results until later
this year and the winner will be recognized at the National FFA Convention in
October. This was a fun filled weekend that the chapter should be proud of with
all of our members who were recognized for all of their hard work.
