Monthly Chapter Meeting
The monthly chapter meeting is on Monday, March 23rd, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center. The assistant officers will be running the meeting. This has been a tradition in our chapter for several years. This is the last meeting of the year. There will be a cookout for all members if our chapter has sufficient funds.
AG BREAKFAST
Ag Breakfast for March has been moved to Wednesday, March 4th at 6:15 A.M. at Tee Jayes due to the State Convention.
At the last meeting, the Ag challenge for the night was scavenger hunt. This is when Mr.Tilley asks for 20 items and the first person to bring each item to Mr.Sharp gets a point. It gets super intense between each class. The winners that night were the JUNIORS!!! Then, it was the Seniors, Freshmen, and the Sophomores.
Ag. Breakfast
Ag. Breakfast was held on March 3rd at 6:15 A.M. It took place at Tee Jaye’s in Lancaster.
Job Interview CDE
In the contest of Job Interview, you are tested to prepare a resume, write a cover letter, fill out an application, and interview for a mock employment opportunity. This years contest participants were Katie Krile, Nick Brumfield, Jenna Ferguson, Daniel Quincel, and Sydney Hines. At Districts Katie placed 6th in the freshman division, Nick placed 4th in the sophomore division, Jenna placed 7th in the junior division, and Daniel placed 6th in the senior division. Sydney placed 1st in the first year Junior/Senior division and is heading to the State Contest on March 5th. At the State contest for Job Interview Sydney Hines placed 3rd. Congrats Sydney!!!
National FFA Week
The week of February 22nd through the 25th was National FFA Week. This is basically when we celebrate the FFA and participate in a spirit week. Tuesday was Blue/Gold day. Students had to wear a shirt with the national colors. Wednesday was FFA shirt day. Later that night, we had a dodgeball tournament. Thursday was drive your tractor or truck to school day. The activity at night was FFA game night. This was where we had games, snacks, and fellowship between our members. Lastly, Friday was Official Dress day.
Public Speaking cde
In Public Speaking, there are four areas offered: Creed, Beginning Prepared, Extemporaneous, and Prepared. The Creed is only open to freshmen that can recite the FFA Creed. Beginning Prepared is mostly for sophomores who present 5 to 7 minute speech on any agricultural topic. Extemporaneous is open to all grade levels. This is when a random agricultural topic is drawn and you have 30 minutes to develop a 4 to 6 minute speech from materials you have with you. Finally, Prepared is also known as “Senior Prepared” and it is also open to all grade levels. You are to present a 6 to 8 minute speech. The participants were Katerina Sharp, Nick Brumfield, Caitlin Robinson, and Sierra Jepsen. Katrina was in the Creed contest and placed 3rd at County and 7th at Districts. Nick was in the Beginning Prepared and placed 1st at County and placed 2nd at Districts. Caitlin was in Extemporaneous and placed 2nd at County and 5th at Districts. Sierra was in Prepared and placed 1st at County and 2nd at Districts. Both Sierra and Nick will be going to the State Preliminary contest on March 19th. Good luck Sierra and Nick!!!
Agricultural Sales
In Ag Sales, students are tested on their knowledge and understanding of sales. The contest includes multiple-choice test, a sales demonstration, and four practicums. The four practicums are telephone skills, advertising and promotion, product display and customer relations. The participants were Andrea Hollett, John Miller, Amber McCreary, and Carrie Stoneburner. As a team they placed 9th at Districts. Individually, Andrea placed 32nd, John 14th, Amber 19th, and Carrie 29th.
212º Leadership Conference
On February 26th and 27th, there was a leadership conference at Union Local High School. The conference has replaced the Made for Excellence, but this year the conference name was changed. Those who attended were: John Miller, Aaron Miller, Nate Seitz, Caitlin Robinson, Sierra Jepsen, Nick Brumfield, Seth Sayre, Sam Meenach, Josh Watkins, Kylie Dunn, Carrie Stoneburner, Rachel Stoneburner, Samantha Fearnow, Amber McCreary, Cheyanne Rollins, Katie Hutchinson, and Courtney Collins.
Top Fall Fund Raiser’s Trip
This year's Top Fall Fund Raiser's trip was in Louisville, Kentucky. It has been a tradition to go there for years. To be eligible to go, students had to sell 25 or more boxes of fruit. The members who went were: Alex Norris, Reba Hyme, Sierra Jepsen, Nick Brumfield, Nate Seitz, Capitola Picklesmer, Devin Collins, Cheyenne Jepsen, Jauni Stalder, Ben Slykerman, and Colleen Trapp. The chaperones on the trip were: Chris Beatty, Lou Ann Hyme, and Johnny Herron. We would like to extend a big thank you to this year’s chaperones.
Upcoming Contests
Ag mechanics Skills
Ag Mechanics Skills is a CDE where all three team members are asked to demonstrate various mechanical tasks that range from welding to brazing to wiring. This year’s participants are Nate Seitz, John Miller, and Devin Collins. The District contest was on March 8th at Teays Valley High School. The team placed 1st. Individually: John placed 1st, Nate placed 3rd, and Devin placed 5th. The State contest in April 8th at the OSU-ATI. Good luck boys!!!
OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT CDE
The Outdoor Power Equipment CDE is starting up! All members who are interested don't forget to sign up and talk to Mr.Tilley ASAP!!! The online test is March 24th and the District contest is on April 5th at Teays Valley High School.
GREENHAND QUIZ
The Greenhand quiz is opened for freshmen. This contest tests freshmen on their knowledge of the history of the FFA. Members who are participating on March 10th are: Katie Krile, Rachel Stoneburner, Katerina Sharp, Ben Slykerman, Cheyenne Baughamn, and Jacquelyn Gibson.
The Dairy Cattle CDE is quickly approaching. Practices are already starting. Members who are interested need to let Mr.Tilley and Mr. Sharp know ASAP!!! Members who are signed up are:Tyelar Garee, Tiffany Otey, Jacquelyn Gibson, and Budd Norris.
The Marysville Invitational was on March 5th. All members who signed up to participate were the Nature Interpretation, Wildlife Management, Equine, Dairy Cattle, and General Livestock teams.
The Ashland Invitational is coming up on March 26th. All Spring contests CDEs will be there exccept for Dairy Cattle. All who signed up for those CDEs should go. It is get practice before the real contest.
The Nature Interpretation team consists of Micheal Hite, Aaron Miller, Alex Norris, Nick Brumfield, Hunter Ricketts, Emily Cordle, and Seth Johnson. The State contest is April 2nd at the Ohio Expo Center. Good luck!!!

General Livestock is being coached by A-C FFA Alumni member Christian Hoffman.The General Livestock is participating at the State Preliminary contest on April 2nd at the Ohio Expo Center. The team members consist of: Rachel Stoneburner, Kate Krile, Katerina Sharp, Becca Bentz, Cheyenne Jepsen, and Chancey Holbrook. Good luck!!!
